West Side City Council Candidate Dan Lewis detailed several differences between himself and incumbent Michael Cadigan, including Mr. Cadigan’s stated lack of desire to continue serving as councilor, the importance of working collaboratively with others on behalf of the West Side, and the central issue of protecting the individual freedoms of the people represented by whoever is city councilor.
“Serving as councilor or in any office to help the public should be something someone really wants to do,” explained Lewis. “Mr. Cadigan has stated to me and others that he is ‘worn out’ and has ‘become jaded’ and ‘too cynical’ to continue on the council,” continued Lewis, stating that “Michael recently explained that the ‘job of city councilor needs someone who can see with a new set of eyes’.” Lewis agrees wholeheartedly and is working hard to bring that new perspective to the responsibilities of serving the West Side as councilor.
As Lewis explains: “The voters will have a clear choice in this race for City Council. First there is the critical need to elect someone who can work collaboratively with others—that is essential to improving and healing relationships with neighborhood associations, other members of the city council, and the executive branch. Michael has been trying to be mayor for so long he seems to have forgotten how to serve the people as city councilor. Another and substantial difference between the incumbent and me is the central issue of protecting people’s rights as citizens and taxpayers. Respectfully, Mr. Cadigan’s record across the board is to vote for more government, against private property rights, and to create and increase indirect taxes on homeowners and small businesses. There is also a disturbing habit of telling people one thing and then doing the exact opposite time and again, as we have seen in his on-again, off-again interest in continuing to serve the people of Albuquerque’s West Side. Voters will definitely have a meaningful choice this time around.”
